A basket for those who might like to ditch the plastic version and use instead a classic British design to carry the washing. John reproduces a wet washing basket pattern that was once made by an old London basketmaking workshop. This basket was also called a 'flasket' in some regions.

Hanging out the washing is a lot more enjoyable when it's done using a white willow laundry basket. This basket is made in peeded, pale straw-blonde coloured willow which, in the trade, is known as 'white' willows.

All baskets are handmade by John in small batches in his workshop in the market town of Lanark, UK, using only UK-grown willows.

I try to supply willow colours as close as possible to the natural colours illustrated in the photos above, give or take slight variation in natural 'white' willow. Whilst the colours shouldn't be at all dramatically different, please allow for some very slight variations in natural peeled willow colours.

Lovely laundry basket

A beautiful basket. It's big and comfortably holds a full load of laundry. The handles feel strong and it makes a sweet creaking sound as i carry it out to the line. The basket was dispatched very quickly.

I'm pleased to replace my old plastic basket which was shedding small bits of plastic everywhere. I hope to use this willow basket for a long time, and it'll eventually biodegrade at the end of its life. Thank you for your work John, I am enjoying it very much :)

Wash day smiles

This basket is aesthetic and beautifully made. There is not one jutting cut end on the inside therefore nothing to snag clothes so no need for messing about with a lining cloth. It takes a large laundry load but being so light weight of itself is ideal for older users, and the handles are easy to grip. It fits closely under front load washing machines once the door is open. Having bought one and used it several times to carry the wet laundry to the drying line, I ordered another to be the 'waiting to be ironed hamper': save postage and order two straight off.
The willow is sourced in Britain and is, of course, bio-degradable at the distant end of the baskets life, so this product has great eco-ethical credentials. And every time I do the mundane chore of carrying the washing up the garden to the drying line the lovely basket, creaking quietly, makes me smile.
