*If you'd like to order this basket, please email John who'd be happy to make it for you. They are being made to order only these days.*
This strong basket with stout white willows is traditional to areas in UK with orchards. This style with its thick rim and 1/4, 1/2 or 1 bushel volume was used by fruit merchants for apples, cherries etc. They didn't pick from the tree and fill these baskets, these were the containers into which the fruit was sorted to travel and be sold at market. It was given the name 'Covent Garden Sieve' after the famous old fruit market. In moments of utmost eccentricity, porters at the old Covent Garden Fruit Market would race with as many of this basket style as possible balanced on their heads.
