John makes some traditional agricultural and industrial baskets of the British Isles. Some of the basketweaving materials used to make them are scarce, and the specific knowledge of how to make many of these is widely being lost. In particular, John makes some of the traditional baskets used in UK coastal regions in bygone times. These attractive baskets are sturdy and were designed for heavy use in occasional wet conditions.

Nowadays, most of the people who order these baskets do so simply because they like how they look and want to use them as interesting home storage baskets. A use for which they are eminently fit for purpose. It is this repurposing for storing blankets, etc. that helps keep them going. Others order them because they have been researching their local history or have some memory of these baskets being used in their community.
