John's study of traditional UK fishing baskets led to a notable high point of leaning to make the Washing Maund, a working vessel from the golden era of herring fisheries. It is one of his favourites. Distinguished by its openwork fitched base, this design proved indispensable throughout Britain's coastal communities during the kippering trade. The herring girls relied on its construction to efficiently wash split herring. This basket embodies decades of fishing tradition and practical ingenuity of the industry's maritime craftsmanship.

Made in peeled white willow & hazel.

If your desired quantity isn't available online, or if you need a gift message written on the dangle tag, please contact us to arrange.

I try to supply willow colours as close as possible to the natural colours illustrated in the photos above, give or take slight variation in natural 'white' willow. Whilst the colours shouldn't be at all dramatically different,  please allow for some very slight variations in natural peeled willow colours.
